Our Shared Stories: A Multicultural Art Showcase

Welcome to the "Our Shared Stories" Art Showcase, an extraordinary opportunity for talented artists aged 14 to 18 in San Mateo County to express their cultural heritage and creativity through hangable artworks. This showcase is a celebration of diversity, unity, and the power of visual storytelling.

About the Exhibition: "Our Shared Stories" is a platform for young artists in San Mateo County to proudly represent their heritage, share their stories, and showcase their artistic talents. Whether you're a painter, an illustrator, or a mixed-media artist, your unique perspective matters in this celebration of cultures.

Themes We're Seeking: We invite artworks that explore themes related to cultural identity, diversity, heritage, and personal narratives. Your piece should reflect the essence of your cultural background and the stories that define you.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Eligibility: Open to artists ages 14 to 18 in San Mateo County.

  • Art Medium: Hangable artworks including paintings, illustrations, and mixed-media pieces.

  • Artwork Size: Artworks should not exceed a space larger than 5ft by 7ft, but the work may be as small as the artist wishes.

  • Number of Artworks: Submit as many artworks as needed to convey your unique cultural story.

  • Submission Deadline: December 1st 2023

  • Images sent in application submission must be in JPEG or PNG format

  • Reception: January 20th at the Foster City Library

  • Exhibition: On display for a time at the library (TBD)

About the Organizer: The "Our Shared Stories" Art Showcase is organized by Alex Carreon, a dedicated Youth Cultural Ambassador of San Mateo County. With 12 years of professional art instruction, Alex aims to celebrate diversity, empower young artists, and foster cultural unity. As a Chicano student, Alex understands the power of art to bridge cultures and create positive change within the community through this county-wide art project.
